They call it the Powder Highway but a better name might be the Road to Awesome. The southeastern flank of British Columbia, known as the Kootenay Rockies, is said to have the highest concentration of ski options in the world: downhill, backcountry, cross-country, cat, heli. You can even ski in the dark, as I discovered, and with a bellyful of grog.

Canadian skier Erik Guay makes history

At 35, Erik Guay was already the most decorated ski racer in Canadian history, with 24 World Cup podium finishes and the 2010 World Cup title in men's super G. But on Wednesday, Guay carved out a new piece of skiing history by becoming the oldest gold medalist ever at the world championships with a win in the super G race in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

Lindsey Vonn won the World Cup women's downhill race at Lake Louise. This course is reputed to be among her favorites since her first World Cup win there in 2004.
